Consumer Reviews
"If you want an SUV/CUV or whatever don't buy the Escape for the MPG it isn't close to being accurate. 17.9-18.1 MPG will be your range for the SE 4WD model. Compared to the other SUV/CUV's out there, you can get a whole lot more for about the same price and a whole lot better MPG. Don't buy the Escape unless you want to fill-up weekly for such a small engine car. Rather have a V-8. They both get about the same MPG. Very sad Ford!"

"I bought the 2013 Escape SEL. I like all the bells and whistles but I feel like I'm in a car and not an SUV. I had a Chevy Equinox before. I miss the V6 power and the feeling of driving an SUV. I also have not seen very good gas mileage. The highest Average MPG I've seen so far is 22. I have 1400 miles on it and it has been cold out so hopefully the MPG will get better."

"Very pleased and surprised with the handling and especially fuel efficiency. So glad I traded in my old gas guzzler SUV-4 wheel drive for the Ford Escape frontwheel drive"

"Surprising performance, comfort and styling. More useful features than my Lexus or Infinity for FAR less money. I Love it!"

"I have a 2006 Escape Hybrid with over 110K miles and not one significant problem so traded in my Mini Cooper S (now, there is a saga of unreliabiltiy!) on a 2013 Ford Escape Eco-Boost. I like a car with spunk and zip and dreaded getting a second SUV but this car is a (not so) little powerhouse. I have to be careful not to get too carried away and end up with points on my license. It feels like there is more room in the cargo area than the previous design and the comfort of the seats can give the so-called luxury brands a run for their money. I especially appreciate the auto open back gate and that the back seats recline. My only gripe is that the screen that controls virtually everything is not very user friendly and I just don't like the nav system. Also, because it is a push-button off/on system + the car is VERY quiet when it is running it is very easy to leave it running, lock it, and walk away. No, there is NO warning mechanism on the car that warns you that you are leaving a running car. I would chalk my doing this (it ran all night) up to early-onset stupid but then another person using the car did the same thing (someone much younger than me). This seems to me to be a design defect. Yes, I would buy this car again! I don't think there is better quailty for the price out there for a mid-sized SUV. I am soooo glad I didn't buy the ML 350 Mercedes Blue-tec that was my second choice. Kudos to Ford for this great product."

"My husband and I have been having problems with the operation of the power windows on my brand new 2013 Escape (2 months old). We dropped the car off at the dealer because the front power windows were operating unusually slowly (we noticed that the first day we had the car and when we inquired we were told this was due to new window gaskets). We had our doubts as we suspected an electrical problem (the operation of both front windows at the same time has a synergistic effect by drastically slowing both). The problem recurred, with the passenger window getting stuck on the way up twice! Once again we left the car with the Service department for the entire day and was assured that this time they would look at the problem more carefully. When we picked up the car at the end of the day, we were told that a technician had examined the windows and lubricated them and that everything was fine. When we started the car in your parking lot and tried the windows before leaving I found them to be worse than ever. Both driver's and passenger front windows. The service advisor at the desk came out to look, and agreed that it was NOT normal for the window to go up at an excruciatingly slow pace and even stopping altogether part way up. We left the car at the dealer to be checked again. Today we received the news that they replaced the window motors and this did not fix the problem. The dealer is contacting Ford engineers to find out weather they can come up with a way to fix this (they now believe it is a design problem). Needless to say we are extremely disappointed and very worried that we have made a very big mistake in buying this car."

"From the day we bought it, as soon as we signed the paperwork, the sales manager ran out and told us we couldn?t take it home, Of course he let us test drive it, He told about the carpet recall issue, I Begged my Wife to leave and NOT BUY the thing. But she really loved the vehicle , so we agreed to wait ? it was 5-6 days . Then sometime in October we took the vehicle in for an oil change, they also told us we could not take the vehicle home, they were very nice. Gave us rental ? 6-7 days. Problem is ? WE NEVER GOT ANY NOTICE FROM FORD ABOUT IT. The in sometime in Late November , Early December ? we took the vehicle back in for an oil change ? guess what ? they told us we couldn?t take it home again. DÉJÀ VU Once again NO NOTICE from FORD? This time they did not know how long it would be , they said there WAS NO FIX, that Ford was trying figure it out , the dealer gave us a loaner again and was very nice, but it was something like 18 or 20 days . It created a MAJOR inconvenience for me, On Dec 24, that?s right Christmas EVE, I get a call from a Ford Rep, he tells me that Ford has a RECALL TRADE IN ASSISTANCE PROGRAM to help Escape owners who are dissatisfied. He says I can go to any dealer, make sure I talk to the Sale Manager and he will take care of me. I told him that was great , because all I wanted at this point was TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE and somehow just come out ?WHOLE? , like when the dealer typically does when you trade in a vehicle. He insinuated that that would be the case, He even gave me his name and number to give to the Sales Manager to call if there were any questions. At that point , I felt pretty good, thinking that maybe FORD CARES ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND WHAT THEY THINK. I didn?t expect any cash payout or any large advantage from the trade or swap and at that point would have been PERFECTLY HAPPY WITH ANOTHER FORD and 500$ Monthly payment, ALL GOOD. I told him couldn?t do it right away ? I guess I assumed he realized it WAS CHRISTMAS EVE. So we went on Holiday ? left the vehicle parked ? 2 reasons, 1. We knew we were going to take to Pilsen Ford in Mattoon right after the Holidays , could go back to the dealer in Joliet after the B.S. at the time of purchase.. 2. My WIFE DIDN?T WANT TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE, she was worried about driving the grandkids around etc, we have , so we drove my 2004 vehicle all thru the holidays and LEFT A BRAND NEW FORD 2013 ESCAPE IN THE GARAGE BECAUSE MY WIFE WOULDN?T DRIVE IT? Thanks FORD In any case , on JAN 2nd , 1 day after the NEW YEAR , You call me, and tell me the offer is no longer valid, that it EXPIRED ON 12/28 at Midnight. OF COURSE YOU HAVE MY FEELINGS AND COMMENST RECORDED. Not happy with the way this has been handheld AT ALL. I called up the original Ford REP and asked him, WHY DIDN?T YOU TELL ME THE OFFER EXPIRED, I would have made arrangements to drive back to Mattoon get the car and work the deal. He said , because ?I didn?t know? ?Sorry?. So my disappointed, frustration , aggravation and inconvenience continues. Ford has done way too much to DEVALUE the Vehicle and NAMPLATE , to me , other consumers, other dealers, NOBODY WANTS THIS VEHICLE ? NOT EVEN FORD. I am 53 years old , I figured the other day I have purchased 12 new vehicles in my lifetime, this is my first and last FORD. I am going to spend the rest of my days, telling anyone and everyone who asks me about this vehicle this story? I will tell my children and their grandchildren, friends and neighbors, strangers if they ask, . I will hit every internet blog and review, social , facebook, youtube and post this. I will soil as many people as I possibly can with truth and facts about my experience as a Ford Buyer. A buyer who did everything right , at in the end got vehicle that I have no confidence in, from a company I have lost confidence in. Now after the 3rd recall repair the vehicle barely gets 178-20 mpg, we were getting 25-28 when we took it in, they tell me their fix had nothing to do with it , its back at the ealer now , they agree the mpg is bad, They are trying to figure it out , Dont buy the 2013 Ford Escape"

"With over 6500 miles on an SEL 2.0l 4WD, it's averaged 25.6 mpg overall, between 22.5 and 29.6 on various tanks. Highs: - Gorgeous styling, inside and out - Terrific interior materials - 2.0l very strong, reasonably economical, if driven carefully - Ride and handling top-notch - 4WD (really AWD) goes well in snow, even with factory 18" tires, basically eliminates torque steer - SYNC voice commands - Sony audio / 8inch MyFord Touch screen Lows: - slightly claustrophobic front seating area - no power passenger seat - Center console area ergonomics problematic, with low HVAC controls and touchscreen a bit far from driver - Turbocharged engine's fuel economy very sensitive to driving style and conditions - SYNC voice recognition doesn't always understand - MyFord Touch system slightly slow, bug prone (prior to MFT 3.5.1, clock resets, system reboots, etc., 3.5.1 may have fixed, but too recent to judge fully) Now that I've presented the pros and cons, as I've seen them, I've got to say it- we love it. The power rear lift gate is also a nifty feature that we took for a gimmick, but which has turned out to be very useful. The engine is powerful, yet capable of being frugal if you try, and there's good usable space inside, along with plenty of high quality materials everywhere. This is a big step up from the previous Escapes, and a new direction for the model. The previous version wasn't bad, this is just better all around, unless you're really into truck-looking CUVs."

"there is not a better equipped suv on the market in the US today. It handles much easier than other small suv's in city driving. the sync my touch is free. On star on GM vehicles have a monthly charge for the same emergency services. The gas mileage is the best for a small suv."

"I love my new Gray Escape!! I bought the S Model, because I don't like turbo charged engines. I think the 2.5 is powerful enough and I am averaging 26.5 MPG's!! It is so fun to drive and at $20,000, it was a steal!! I love the Ford MySynch!! Hands Free Phone Calls!! If you are in the market for a new SUV, be sure to do your research and drive an Escape. This is one tough Sports Utility Vehicle, NOT A CROSSOVER!!!!"
